You can almost feel the exact moment when summer switches to fall. Suddenly the air is crisper, the leaves are changing, and if you’re really in touch, you start to crave apples and pumpkins in large quantities. Hamilton and Mimico are both exceptional places to satisfy those fall cravings!
If you’re based in Hamilton, Apple-Lee Fun Weekends at Puddicombe Estate Farms and Winery are all the rage until October 9th. Enjoy live music, train rides, wine tastings, a campfire and marshmallow roast, freshly baked desserts and pies, fall crafts, and more. Oh, and you can pick your own apples too!
Ever wanted to learn how to dry and preserve your own food? You can attend a Cooking Demo on Drying Foods for Preserving from Hendry Farms, on September 21st at Ancaster Farmer’s Market. The market provides the community with fresh, local produce grown within walking or riding distance of Ancaster proper. Local musicians play for all, and a kids’ tent offers crafts and agricultural educational materials. Market-goers can also stay for dinner at their choice of restaurant or food truck.
Mimico’s Stonegate Farmers’ Market continues to roll out on Tuesdays until October 4th.
Go for the local organic produce, honey, bread, cheese, meats, or the local entertainers! And since community groups host weekly BBQs, you can go to eat out too.
Colours of Autumn takes off at Islington Seniors’ Centre on October 1st—prime time for those breathtaking fall hues. Travelers will head north to Singhampton, enjoy a luncheon, visit Blue Mountain, and drive into Beaver Valley, enjoying the scenery along the way. There will even be a stop for English-style afternoon tea!
