Day-Tripping In and Around Hamilton

Hamilton has a lot more to offer than many know, and fall is a gorgeous time to start discovering it. For starters, stunning natural settings like the rich, green Niagara Escarpment surround it. A quick jaunt by foot from many spots in the city will land you in some surprisingly magical places.

Hamilton is also home to two well-established wineries. Participate in daily wine tastings or go on one of the many different wine tours at Puddicombe Estate Farms and Winery. Visit Ridge Road Estate Winery for self-guided tours through the beautiful grounds with a map that provides a rich history of the property. Did you know that Hamilton is considered the “waterfall capital of the world?” With over 100 waterfalls in close vicinity, there are endless breathtaking day hike options to choose from. The Spencer Adventure is a daylong hike from Dundas Peak along Spencer Gorge, while the Felker’s Falls and East Mountain Waterfall Walk is a 4-kilometre walk that takes about an hour. Intrigued? The Valens Conservation Area can be found a mere half-hour drive from Hamilton and is a great family day-trip option with something for everyone. The park is perfect for hiking, strolling, boating, camping, picnicking, and swimming, as there’s also a nice beach on hand. You can even go fishing in designated areas! And if you’re peckish, there’s a food truck and cute little store too.
